Terry and his friend Larry Loader have a job they hate. They have to work in a nasty garbage dump. No one could like a job like that. Also, the garbage dump owner is not a very nice man and he is no fun to work for.

Someone who does like the garbage dump is a wacky seagull named Sammy who will eat just about any rotten food that shows up. Sammy is loud and rauccous, but Terry and Larry learn to like the silly bird.

One day the garbage dump catches on fire and has to be shut down. A new owner buys the property and turns it into a properly run sanitary landfill. Terry, Larry and a new machine, Stella the Steel Wheel Compactor, learn to dispose of trash in a proper manner. When the landfill is finally “filled up” a nice surprise awaits the machines and Sammy the Seagull puts on a wacky show for them.
