Terry is working as a “pipelayer” tractor with a new tool called a side boom. He and the other tractors must work as a team to build a new pipeline. Terry wants to do a good job, but has trouble remembering to work as a good teammate. The boss has to take Terry out of the team and have him work alone. This causes him to be very sad.

Terry meets another sad machine, Lori the Locomotive, who will be “put out of business” by the new pipeline. Terry feels sorry for Lori but there seems no way to help.

A crisis occurs that causes the tractors to work as a team to save Lori. In saving the locomotive, Terry proves he can be a good team worker. But Lori will still lose her job when the pipeline is completed.

In the end, all works out well for both Terry and Lori.
